Hilton President Kansas City, built in 1926 and a member of Historic Hotels of America since 2014 was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. Historic Hotels of America is the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation for recognizing and celebrating the finest historic hotels across America.
The stunning President Hotel was built as one of the finest hotels in the country. Over the years, the Kansas City population left downtown as well as the economic engine keeping downtown operational. The President sat empty and abandoned for nearly 35 years, until visionary developer Ron Jury purchased the hotel and spent $45 million to renovate the hotel. The President has been restored to its original look and feel reminiscent of a 1940's era grand hotel. A tour around the hotel immerses guests in the sights and sounds of a bygone era.
