Lassen Volcanic National Park in northern California is home to steaming fumaroles, meadows freckled with wildflowers, clear mountain lakes, and numerous volcanoes. Jagged peaks tell the story of its eruptive past while hot water continues to shape the land. The park offers a wealth of activities that are as varied as the seasons. With over 150 miles of hiking trails, both day hiking and backpacking are popular summer activities. Winter conditions often begin as early as October and persist through June or July. The park may close some facilities and roads during the winter and spring.
