This is a 90-minute experience, touring the museum, the historic church, and the cemetery, one of America’s oldest, continuously used burial yards. It begins with the 15-minute orientation film in the visitors’ center/museum, followed by a tour of exhibitions on display which explore topics in National and Local history. Then, visitors are led to the 18th century (de-consecrated) church, learning about it use as a military field hospital during the Revolutionary War and the nature of the 18th century (restored) interior appearance, among other features. The tour of the historic cemetery explores the changing nature of memorializing the deceased over more than three centuries. It also discusses the outdoor setting of the famous Election of 1733 at St. Paul's, one of the earliest documented elections in American history, capturing the methods and dramas of the ways in which the early Americans conducted their version of democracy. We also consider the election's important connection to the development of freedm of religion and fredom of the press in America.
