Introduction to Wild Caving Tour

Caves in their essence are some of the wildest places on earth, and this Introduction to Wild Caving tour will let you take a look at the wilder side of Lehman Caves. Off the paved tourist trail and away from the electrical lighting system, you will experience the cave in its natural environment. Learn how to cave safely while protecting the cave and the natural and cultural history that lies deep within.
Your experience begins at check-in at the Lehman Caves Visitor Center where you will meet your guide, go over fitness and equipment requirements, safety messages, and be fitted with provided cave gear. From there, you'll assemble as a group and journey underground, exploring the approximately 1.5 miles of Lehman Caves, beginning on trail before climbing into the dark.
This tour requires bending, climbing, and is considered strenuous. Be prepared to get your clothes dirty and have fun! The tour is limited to 8 people, age 16 and older, and requires these advanced ticket reservations. Soon after booking, you'll be contacted by your guide to review requirements and finalize your reservation.

Need to Know
- Elevation/Temperature
The elevation at the cave entrance is 6,825ft (2080m). The temperature in the cave is a constant 52 F (10 C) year-round so a light jacket is recommended. Wear closed-toed shoes with good traction as the cave floor is wet and slippery.
- Required Items
Visitors should be wearing:
Long-sleeved shirt or light, durable jacket and long pants - Expect all items to get dirty!
Closed-toe shoes with good traction
Camera/phone (optional)
Small fanny pack/cross body bag (optional)
Do not bring additional personal equipment. All other caving equipment (helmet, gloves, padding, headlamps, etc.) will be provided.
- Age & Fitness Requirements
All visitors on the Introduction to Wild Caving tour must
Be ages 16 & older
Be comfortable walking over uneven ground without hiking poles or other aids
Be comfortable climbing up short distances over large boulders
Have the ability to crawl up to 30 meters / 30 yards
Have a willingness to experience the wild side
- No-Show Policy
Give yourself plenty of travel time. Wide loads and weather are some of a number of items which can slow your journey. Wild Cave Tour reservations must be canceled seven days prior to the tour date, or no refund will be provided.
