Muir Woods National Monument is part of Golden Gate National Recreation Area and protects 554 acres of old growth coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) forest, one of a few such stands remaining in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Parking reservations are required for all Commercial Carriers before entering Muir Woods National Monument. Commercial parking reservations are only available to Commercial Operators who hold a Commercial Use Authorization (CUA) from Golden Gate National Recreation Area. This parking reservation system, effective since spring 2018, was developed in order to improve the overall visitor experience and enhance protection of the park.
This permit allows the permit holder a single parking reservation for the designated time slot and commercial carrier parking space in Muir Woods National Monument.
There are twelve Commercial Carrier parking spaces. Six are large vehicle spaces (22+ feet to 35 feet in length) and six medium vehicle spaces (up to 22 feet in length).

Approximately one third of all commercial parking spaces are released three months in advance on the first of the month; one third are released one month in advance on the first of the month; and one third are released three days in advance. All releases occur at 7:00 a.m. Pacific Time.
