The Arizona Trail Thru Hiker Overnight Permit is to be used by Arizona Trail thru hikers while wilderness camping in Saguaro National Park. Arizona Trail thru hikers may camp overnight during a two-week period when the hiker expects to travel through the park. This permit offers flexibility to the thru hiker and removes the uncertainty of speed of travel and hiker energy levels, allowing the thru hiker to camp when they are ready.
The permit allows Arizona Trail thru hikers to camp overnight at either Grass Shack or Manning Campground shared sites. The permit only allows camping in these two shared campsites and does not reserve an individual, private campsite. Depending on the day, AZT hikers can expect to be the only hikers, or share the large space with up to 20 other hikers. Check the Camping page on the park website for campground descriptions.
