Umpqua Hot Springs Day Use Pass

Umpqua National Forest

The Umpqua Hot Springs Day Use Area and Trailhead is open daily and year-round from sunrise to sunset.

Passes are only good during daylight hours.

The site is accessible by Forest Service Road 3401. The trailhead parking lot is the access point for the Umpqua Hot Springs Trail (#1444), leading to the soaking pools. The trailhead parking lot is also the access point for the North Umpqua Trail - 'Hot Springs' section (#1414.08).

Overnight camping, overnight parking, and parking on Forest Service Road 3401 within the closure boundary is prohibited. Violations of this prohibition are punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both (16 U.S.C.§ 551; 18 U.S.C.§§ 3551, 3559, 3571, and 3581). Refer to ORDER NO. 06-15-03-24-03 - Hot Springs Regulations for closure information.

Parking in the approved area is limited (approximately 10 vehicles). Be prepared to park outside the closure area and hike in.

Winter weather requires a road gate closure 3 miles before the parking area for safety. Be prepared to hike the 3 miles to the Day Use Area during winter months.

The 0.3-mile Umpqua Hot Springs Trail is a steep climb to a "tub" roughly 3x5 feet and 2.5 feet deep. The pool was hewn out of the travertine deposits surrounding the hot springs. Water seeps through an active fault, resulting in temperatures of 100 to 115 degrees Fahrenheit. Lower pools fill from the main tub, resulting in cooler temperatures 150 feet down to the North Umpqua Wild and Scenic River.

Visitor use is heavy, and nudity is common at the pool area.
