Pine Flats Campground

Pine Flats Campground

Part of Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest

Overview

Pine Flats Campground is located next to the Mad River, in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, on the Entiat Ranger District. Visitors have easy access to the Mad River trailhead which connects to several multiple-use trails. There are six campsites available that are all within close proximity to the river. The campground contains two vault toilets, garbage service, and a handpump with potable water.

Facilities

The campground offers one group site, that is reservation only, and six first-come, first-served single sites. Each site contains a picnic table and campfire ring. Two vault toilets, garbage service, and a hand pump with potable water are provided during the main summer season. If the trash cans are full, please pack out any extra trash produced greater than what the cans can accommodate.

Natural Features

The campground is situated on the banks of the Mad River, at an elevation of 1,621 feet. Ponderosa pines tower over the area, which also contains several open meadows that are great for wildflower viewing during the spring bloom season. The surrounding forest provides excellent habitat for a wide range of wildlife. Visitors may catch glimpses of mule deer, bald eagles, and a variety of woodpeckers and owls.

Recreation

The campground offers great access to trail opportunities for hikers, horseback riders, mountain bikers and motorcyclists. The Lower Mad River Trailhead is located within the campground. The Mad River trail is 14-miles long and leads to the upper Mad River meadows area. Spring time wildflower viewing is a popular activity while hiking up the trail.

Nearby Attractions

The Mad River Trail provides 14 miles of hiking, biking, horseback, and motorcycle riding access to some of the most beautiful alpine settings the area has to offer. The campground sits close to hundreds of miles of multiple use trails that are easily accessible from nearby trailheads. Entiat National Fish Hatchery is at mile marker six on the Entiat River Road and welcomes visitors in the summer. Tyee lookout is just up the road and offers visitors stunning views of the surrounding valley.
