Part of Black Hills National Forest
Woven into the rugged limestone canyons of the Black Hills, Steamboat Recreation Area offers a serene escape where the scent of Ponderosa Pine meets the gentle rush of Boxelder Creek. Massive rock cliffs tower over quiet, shaded sites, creating a natural cathedral for those seeking a quiet detour from the typical frenzied pace. 10 Sites are spread across the recreation area, offering two large group tent site areas and eight other more intimate tent-only campsites.
Nearby recreation opportunities include an extensive network of OHV trails that can be accessed just a few miles from recreation area.
The Centennial Trail can be accessed via the Blue Draw Trailhead (4.3 miles away) or Pilot Knob Trailhead (6.3 miles away).

From Rapid City, take South Canyon Road west to Nemo Road. Take Nemo Road 11 miles Northwest for 11 miles. Steamboat Recreation Area will be on the right side of the road.
