Rio Bravo Group Shelter is located in the Orilla Verde Recreation Area of Rio Grande del Norte National Monument. The group shelter is located along the Rio Grande with boat access to the river. The group shelter is available year-round on a first-come first-served basis. The shelter is reservable from 11AM on the day of a reservation until 10AM the following day.
Rio Bravo can accommodate a group of 40 visitors with 10 picnic tables and 3 grills. This site has electricity. There are no RV hook ups at this site. In addition to the group shelter, there is a full bathroom with running water, sinks, showers, and flushable toilets. This shelter and restroom meet ADA requirements. Parking is allowed in the front of the group shelter across the road in the large parking areas. A maximum of 15 vehicles are allowed with the cost of the group shelter. Parking must NOT interfere with other visitors and must not be at the other individual’s campsites unless the additional site is paid is purchased. Camping must be confined to the group shelter area and must not spill over into individual sites. There is a small boat launch at the camp ground where boats/rafts must be carried to (vehicles can not back down the ramp). Responsible party should check in with the camp host upon arrival.

Rio Bravo is near river, hiking, and climbing access points within the Gorge. Other attractions nearby include the historic town of Taos, having restaurants and the conveniences of a small town, the UNESCO World Heritage Area of Taos Pueblo (please check Taos Pueblo for hours or operation, prices, and visitation requirements), and a variety of vineyards and a brewery located in the Embudo Valley.
Rio Bravo Group Shelter is operated by the Bureau of Land Management. It is located on an area with no cell phone reception and limited amenities. Please come prepared with the items you will need and remember to Leave No Trace.
