Overview

Located on the National Register of Historic Places, Camp Greentop is a perfect location for organized groups to hold large events, retreats, or conferences. The camp has space for 150 people in the recreation hall and dining hall, which includes a commercial kitchen and restrooms. This rental is for daytime use. Overnight lodging is not available, and access to other seasonal facilities (cabins, lodges, comfort stations, pool, central showers, laundry facility) is not included. Guests have exclusive access to the dining hall, recreation hall, and grounds.

Facilities

Camp Greentop will accommodate up to 150 guests. The camp has a commercial kitchen, dining hall, recreational hall, restrooms and athletic field.

  • The camp has a large group dining hall, a commercial kitchen, and a recreation hall. The dining hall, kitchen, and recreation hall have heating and air conditioning.

  • The dining hall and recreational hall contain approximately 40 tables and 100 chairs. The recreation hall has a small stage. The commercial kitchen offers various appliances, including a freezer, refrigerator, three ranges, a convection oven, ice machine, microwave, toaster, and dishwasher. The kitchen contains multiple storage spaces.

  • Outdoor amenities include a grass athletic field and a campfire ring with wooden bench seating. Firewood is provided by the park. Use of firewood from outside the park is not allowed.

  • Seasonal facilities are not included in this rental: cabins, lodges, central showers, comfort stations, laundry facilities, and pool.

  • No internet access or Wi-Fi is currently available. Cellular service coverage is best on AT&T or Verizon networks.

  • Trash facilities include a waste and recycling dumpster

  • Guests are responsible for cleaning and sanitation of the entire facility, including the restrooms and kitchen. The park provides cleaning equipment, including trash cans, mops, buckets, brooms, dust mops, whisk brooms, vacuum cleaners, and dust pans, as well as limited cleaning supplies. The park does not supply paper products, groups are responsible for ensuring their own paper products (paper towels, toilet paper, etc.). Groups must ensure they have all of the needed cleaning supplies and may choose to contract with a professional for cleaning services. The cleaning of all facilities must be completed by check-out time, and the group leader must remain for a walk-through of the entire camp with a park employee.

Catoctin Mountain Park is committed to sustainable park operations and strongly encourages park visitors to reduce their consumption of energy and generation of waste. There is single-stream recycling available in Camp Greentop.

Natural Features

Catoctin Mountain Park, established in 1936, is located along the eastern portion of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The 5,890.36 acre (2384 ha) mixed hardwood forest includes abundant wildlife, freshwater streams and interesting geologic formations. Camp Greentop, shaded by large trees, includes a grass field and outdoor fire circle. A variety of trails (including some accessible trails), interpretive exhibits and picnic areas are within walking distance of Camp Greentop.

Recreation

A variety of hiking trails and picnic facilities are within walking distance of Camp Greentop. The camp includes an athletic field, basketball goals and a swimming pool (open from Memorial Day to Labor Day). Fishing is available by permit within Catoctin Mountain Park and Cunningham Falls State Park, just 3 miles (5 km) from the Catoctin Mountain Park Visitor Center. Cunningham Falls also offers seasonal swimming and boating.

Important Notices

  • Reservations Required. A reservation is required for the use of Camp Greentop. Walk-ins are not available.

  • Check-in & Check-out. All group leaders must complete a check-in upon arrival and a check-out prior to departure with a Park Ranger. Check-in after 8 AM. Please contact the park at 301-663-9388 to arrange for check-in. All facilities must be vacated and cleaned prior to the camp check-out inspection no later than 6 PM.

  • Permits. Special Use Permits may be required for special events or activities. Contact the Catoctin Mountain Park Permit Coordinator at cato_permits@nps.gov for additional information.

  • Alcohol. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited from all park areas administered by Catoctin Mountain Park, unless authorized by a permit issued by the Superintendent.

  • Keys. No keys for securing the buildings will be provided to the permittee.

  • Smoking. Smoking is prohibited in all park buildings.

  • Cleaning/Custodial. Cleaning equipment and limited cleaning supplies are provided. Kitchen utensils, pots, pans and other equipment are NOT provided. Groups are responsible for bringing all paper products (toilet paper, paper towels) and other supplies. All facilities must be cleaned prior to departure.

  • Pets. Pets are not permitted in Camp Greentop; however, they are allowed on trails throughout the park and must remain on a leash at all times. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), service animals are permitted in Camp Greentop.

  • Safety. All emergencies, accidents, incidents etc., shall be reported to the National Capital Area Communications Center at 1-301-714-2235.

  • Cellular service. Cellular service may be limited depending on provider. Cellular towers in the park are serviced by AT& T and Verizon.
