Overview
Mount Rose Campground is conveniently located between Reno and Lake Tahoe just off scenic Mount Rose Highway. Visitors love the campground for its proximity to excellent hiking trails and recreational opportunities at Lake Tahoe.Facilities
Mount Rose contains single and double-family sites, as well as one triple-family site. Six of the single sites are for tent camping only. Picnic and utility tables, campfire rings, grills and food storage lockers are provided, as are vault toilets and drinking water. Roads and parking spurs throughout the site are paved.Natural Features
The campground is situated high on the western slope of Mount Rose at an elevation of 9,300 feet. A scenic forest of lodgepole pine, Jeffrey pine, white pine and red fir covers the campground, offering pleasant shade in most sites.Recreation
Hiking is the most popular pastime at Mount Rose. Several trails, including the Tahoe Meadows, Tahoe Rim, Mount Rose Wilderness and Mount Rose Summit Trails, begin very close to the campground.Nearby Attractions
Mount Rose is conveniently close to beautiful Lake Tahoe, less than 30 minutes away. Tahoe offers excellent boating, kayaking, fishing, hiking and scenic driving opportunities.Important Notices

Mt Rose is at 9,300 elevation and due to its high elevation, opening and closing dates may vary due to weather; travel over Mount Rose Highway may be similarly affected
Reserved sites will be held until checkout (NOON) the day following your arrival date. Sites must be occupied by the checkout time of the second day to hold a reservation, or the site will be forfeited and released to other guests. Please call the office at 760-932-7092 if you need to inform the campground of an arrival time greater than 24 hours after your arrival date, or if you will not use your reservation whatsoever.
Once your reservation start date has begun, neither Recreation.gov nor the Camp Host or Campground Manager will be able to modify your reservation. If you no longer want the site you reserved you will need to cancel that reservation and pay for the site you prefer. There is no exchanging of sites.
6-person limit- there is a max of 6 people per Single campsite. If you exceed this number, purchase two sites and spread your group and equipment evenly between the campsites. This is to protect the natural resources and minimize noise levels. Double sites have a 12-person max; Triple sites have an 18-person max.
Extra vehicles: One RV with tow vehicle per single site or one vehicle per tent site is included in reservation/camping fee. Most sites can accommodate 1 extra vehicle that is NOT included with the reservation fee. Extra vehicle will be charged a per night fee and collected at the campground. Extra vehicle must fit on the parking spur at the site.
Fire Restrictions may be imposed at any time due to hot, dry weather conditions (or red flag warnings) at which point campfires and charcoal fires may not be allowed. Please check with Camp Host before starting a campfire.
Fire Rings: Do not build additional fire rings. Glass, aluminum and food are prohibited in fire rings. Logs must fit within the fire ring. Chainsaws are not allowed. Fires must be extinguished with water and be cool to the touch before leaving campsite or going to bed.

- Don't Move Firewood: Help prevent the spread of tree-killing pests in our national forests by obtaining firewood near your destination and burning it on-site. For more information visit dontmovefirewood.org.
Falling objects: Don't linger under dead, cracked or broken branches. Run if you hear cracks or snapping from tree roots or branches (know that sometimes there is no sound and very little time to react). Report falling branches and trees to the Ranger.
Pets must be on a leash and under their owners' control while in the campground. Owners are responsible for any damage the pet causes. Aggressive pets may be asked to leave the campground for campers' safety and enjoyment. Please pick up and dispose of pet waste in dumpsters.
Generators may be used from 6am-10pm; Quiet hours in the campground are 10p-6am.
Campsites are a combination of reservation and first come first serve. First come first serve sites are available for campers as they become vacant and there is no guarantee of availability. A site may only be occupied when you are physically present and ready to camp and payment has been made. Sites cannot be held for future arriving campers.
Notifications and Alerts
Westrek Services (concessionaire) will have the campground open until 10/11/26 at noon. After that time the Forest Service will keep the campground open until 10/25 unless weather is unfavorable. During the time the Forest Service is operating the campground please be advised there will be no water, no trash service and payment will be cash only. Thank you.
