Overview

Flatrock campground is situated on Hords Creek Lake with nice shade from trees, a fishing dock and gravel swimming areas for beating the Texas heat.

Facilities

More than 50 campsites have water and electric hookups - ten of which have sewer hookups. Seven group shelters are available for day use. The swim beach, open to all overnight campers, is in Flatrock Park in area #1.

Boat ramps, fishing piers are additional amenities at the park. 

Due to low lake levels all boat ramps are CLOSED

Natural Features

Hords Creek Lake is in the center of Texas, north of the Texas Hill Country. Gently rolling hills covered with live oaks make Hords Creek Lake a beautiful getaway, despite the sometimes unbearable heat.

Recreation

Visitors come to Flatrock for fishing, boating and simple relaxation. The popular catches on the lake include largemouth bass, sunfish and white crappie. When water levels are high enough, water skiing is also a fun sport here.

Nearby Attractions

Circle the lake to cruise through neighboring Friendship Park and Lakeside Park.

For a dose of city conveniences, head to Coleman, just eight miles east of the lake.

Important Notices

  • Hord's Creek Lake has an extra vehicle policy that states: A campsite is allowed 2 free vehicles and the 2 additional vehicles with a $5.00 a day extra vehicle fees for a total of 4 vehicles on a single occupancy site and 8 vehicles on a double occupancy site. Double occupancy sites can have 4 free vehicles and 4 additional vehicles with the $5.00 a day extra vehicle fee. All additional vehicles do not have to pay an entrance fee but are required to park at the office outside the park gates.

  • Gatehouse is open: Sun-Thurs 9:00am to 8:00pm | Fri-Sat & Holidays 9:00am to 10:00pm

  • The park gate closes at night for security. Entrance into the park is not allowed between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Please plan accordingly
  • Low water level may expose underwater hazards; boat at your own risk
  • Please wear a life jacket for all lake activities
  • Cell phone coverage is very limited
  • Don't Move Firewood: Protect your forests from tree-killing pests by buying your firewood locally and burning it on-site. Visit Dontmovefirewood.org for further information.
  • All vehicles must be operated in complaince with State laws; vehicles must have a current registration and inspection sticker. The operation of off-road vehicies (ATV's, UTV's, Mini bikes etc.) and golf carts is prohibited.

  • There are currently No Designated Swim Beach Areas due to low lake levels. 

  • STOP THE SPREAD OF INVASIVE SPECIES. Remove plants, seeds, animals, and mud from boots, gear, pets, and vehicles. Clean your gear before entering and leaving the recreation site. Stay on designated roads and trails, and follow local guidelines for firewood. CLEAN, DRAIN, DRY boats and any other recreational equipment that contacts water. Directions

From Coleman, TX, take Highway 153 west for 8 miles to the main entrance of Hords Creek Lake. Follow signs into the campground.
