Overview

Pickensville Campground is located just west of Pickensville, Alabama, on Aliceville Lake on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway.

This campground boasts both a campground and day use area with many activities and amenities for families and outdoor enthusiasts. Visitors enjoy hunting, fishing, picnicking, water sports and watching the barges go by on the waterway.

Facilities

This facility offers 176 campsites that provide picnic tables, campfire rings with grills, electric and water hookups and plenty of shade. Some sites also provide sewer hookups for RV campers. There are accessible sites and restrooms.

Anglers can take advantage of an accessible fishing dock, boat ramp and fish cleaning station at the day use area just across the waterway from the campground. The day use facility also provides a swim beach, playground and picnic shelters.

Natural Features

The Tenn-Tom, as the waterway is known, extends 234 miles from the Tennessee River to the junction of the Tombigbee River in Alabama. The man-made waterway connects the nation's midsection of commercial water transportation with the Gulf of Mexico.

Recreation

Families can swim at Pickensville's beach, play on the multi-use court, walk along the wooded waterfront and learn about the natural and cultural history of the area at the amphitheater.

Anglers can try their luck on the accessible fishing dock or go off-shore in search of bass, walleye, crappie, catfish and sunfish.

Additionally, hunters can seek out a diverse range of high quality habitats for upland game and waterfowl species along the lands surrounding the waterway.

Nearby Attractions

In Pickensville, Alabama, visitors can learn the history of the waterway at the Tom Bevill Visitor Center which depicts an 1830-1850 era antebellum-style home, as well as explore the U.S. Snagboat Montgomery, a National Historical Landmark.

Important Notices

  • Reservations cannot be made at the campground gate house.

  • This is a year-round facility
  • Gates are open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.; there is an emergency exit for campers

  • Don't Move Firewood: Protect your forests from tree-killing pests by buying your firewood locally and burning it on-site. Visit Dontmovefirewood.org for further information.
  • Sites are available for reservation. All reservations must be made by using Recreation.gov

  • LOCAL CAMPING POLICIES

    A limit of 8 people per site.

    The America The Beautiful Senior and Access cards are accepted at this campground for discount camping. When making a reservation only one card can be used on one reservation. If multiple reservations are made with one card one reservation will receive the discount and the others will have to pay the full price upon check-in.

    A camping extension is no more than 14 additional camping days beyond a camper’s initial 14 day camping limit. For each camping extension granted, a camping party cannot exceed 14 days per extension and can only pay for 14 days at a time.

    Peak Season Extension Policy: Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway Campgrounds. After the initial 14 day stay one extension is allowed on a non-prime site for a total of 28 days during peak season (March 1- Sept. 15). At the end of this 28 day stay the camper and equipment must move to another campground on the project but may return to the campground after 7 days. If camping on a prime site the camper must move to a non-prime site after the initial 14 day stay.  

    Off Season Extension Policy: Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway Campgrounds. After the initial 14 day stay no more than one extension will be allowed on a non-prime site for a total of 28 days during the off season (Sept. 13-Feb. 28). At the end of this 28 day stay the camper and equipment must move to another campground on the project but may return to the campground after 7 days. Length of stay on a prime site during the off season remains limited to 14 days. A camper may stay on a prime site 14 days, and move to a non-prime site for 14 days.

    Extensions beyond the 14 day limit will not be granted during major summer holidays.

    Please turn in all passes to the park attendant when leaving the campground.

    Only empty boat trailers are allowed to be parked on grass.

Directions

From Tuscaloosa, Alabama, take Highway 82 west to the junction with Highway 86. Turn left on 86 west to Pickensville. The entrance road to the campground is 2.5 miles from the yellow caution light.
