Overview

Dorabelle Campground is a popular family camping destination above Shaver Lake. Some sites are shaded by a thick stand of fir, cedar and pine trees, while other sites are more open.

This camp is a great base for experiencing the wide variety of recreational activities in the area. Boats can be moored nearby and some sites offer views of the lake.

Facilities

Each site has a dirt parking spur, table, fire ring, and grill. Drinking water and vault toilets are provided.

Natural Features

Surrounded by dense pine forest, Shaver Lake is a popular destination within the High Sierra Ranger District. It sits at an elevation of 5,500 feet and is known for its variety of fish.

The Sierra National Forest, located on the western slope of the central Sierra Nevada, is known for its spectacular mountain scenery and abundant natural resources.

The terrain includes rolling, oak-covered foothills, heavily forested middle elevation slopes and the starkly beautiful alpine landscape of the High Sierra.

Recreation

Hikers can access 5 trails from the campground: Dinkey Road (.5 miles), Musick Meadow (.75 miles), Peninsula Loop (1 mile), Burr Meadow (1.5 miles) and Osprey Cove (2 miles). Horseback riding is also offered nearby.

Popular activities at Shaver Lake include swimming, motorized boating, canoeing, kayaking, water skiing, jet skiing, windsurfing, sailing and fishing. Anglers can fish for kokanee salmon, rainbow trout, brown trout, smallmouth bass, catfish and bluegill.

Important Notices

  • No all-terrain or off-highway vehicles allowed in the campground
  • Two pets per site and leashed at all times.

  • Please Note: One RV with tow vehicle for single site or one vehicle for single tent camping. Two RV’S with tow vehicle per double site or two vehicles for double tent only camping. Most sites can accommodate 1 extra vehicle that is not included with the reservation fee. Extra vehicle will be charged a per night fee and collected at the campground. 

  • Fire restrictions may be imposed at any time due to hot, dry weather conditions, at which time campfires and charcoal fires may not be allowed. For current fire conditions or weather closures contact the High Sierra Ranger District, Sierra National Forest (559) 855-5355

  • Reserved Sites will be held until check out time (NOON) the day following your arrival date. Sites must be occupied by the checkout time of that following day to hold a reservation or the site will be forfeited and released to other guests. 

  • Don't Move Firewood: Protect California's forests from tree-killing pests by buying your firewood locally and burning it on-site. For more information visit firewood.ca.gov.

  • Be bear aware; keep all food out of site in approved containers or locked inside your vehicle and remove all food from area after eating; always keep a clean camp and do not feed any wild animals.

Directions

From Clovis: Take Highway 168 north for 49 miles to the town of Shaver Lake. Turn right on Dorabelle Road and go .5 miles to the campground. Campground registration information is at the campground entry station.

Cancellation Policy

<p>Late Cancellations or Cancellations within the Cut-off Window</p> <p>Individual Campsites: A customer who cancels a reservation the day before or on the day of arrival will pay a $10.00 service fee AND forfeit the first night's use fee (not to exceed the total paid for the original reservation). Cancellations for a one-night reservation will forfeit the entire amount paid and will not be subject to an additional service fee.</p> <p>Cabins / Lookouts: Customers who cancel a cabin or lookout reservation less than 14 days before the arrival date will pay a $10.00 service fee AND forfeit the first night's use fee.</p> <p>Group Facility (including Cabins and Lookouts): Customers who cancel a group overnight facility reservation less than 14 days before the arrival date will pay a $10.00 service fee AND forfeit the first night's use fee.</p> <p>Group Day Use Area: Customers who cancel a group day-use facility reservation less than 14 days before the arrival date will forfeit the total day-use fee.</p> <p>Changes or Cancellations within the Cut-off Window: Once a reservation date has begun, customers cannot change a reservation using the online system or through the Call Center (see below for early departures). If the location is staffed, on-site personnel may or may not be able to assist with changes or cancellations (check with local staff).</p> <p>No-Shows</p> <p>Overnight and Day-Use Facilities: A no-show customer is one who does not arrive at a campground and does not cancel the reservation by check-out time on the day after the scheduled arrival date (or for day-use facilities, by check-in time the day of arrival). Staff will hold a campsite until check-out time on the day following the arrival date and will hold group day-use facilities until check-in time on the arrival date.</p> <p>No-shows are assessed $20.00 service fee and forfeit the first night’s recreation fee for a campsite or forfeit the entire day-use fee for a day-use facility.</p>
