Overview

Warrior Creek is located on the south side of W. Kerr Scott Reservoir in western North Carolina.

Constructed in the beautiful Yadkin River Valley, the lake offers extensive opportunities for outdoor recreational activities.

Facilities

The campground offers 61 family campsites, 6 of these are tent only sites that do have electric hookups. The other 55 sites have full electrical and water hookups to support RV's. There are also two group camping areas that are perfect for large groups.

Amenities include flush and vault toilets, showers, drinking water and a dump station. An amphitheater, playground, basketball court and hiking and biking trails offer additional recreation opportunities. A boat ramp and three fishing piers, one of which is ADA accessible, can be found at Keowee Park which borders the campground.

Natural Features

The gentle Yadkin River flows through its scenic namesake valley in the foothills of the eastern Blue Ridge Mountains. Forests of mixed hardwoods, including sycamore, poplar, oak and hickory, cover the region. Wildlife is abundant in the valley. White-tailed deer, black bear, eastern cottontails and more can be found among the hills. Birds in the area include wild turkey, woodpeckers, Carolina chickadees, red-eyed vireo, ovenbirds, mallards and wood ducks.

Recreation

The 1,475-acre reservoir offers excellent boating, canoeing, kayaking and swimming opportunities. Anglers will find channel catfish, large and smallmouth bass, bluegill, threadfin shad, spotted bass, striped bass, and hybrid striped bass. The Warrior Creek trail system completely encircles the campground as it scenically follows the fold of the surrounding landscape. It is recognized by the International Mountain Biking Association as one of the top bike trails in the world. There are 17 miles of single track trail in Warrior Creek with multiple points-of-entry throughout the campground. These trails are also used extensively by hikers and trail runners.

  • Dear Camper:

    Your current reservation may experience a lack of amenities such as closed bath house, dump station, no water at sites, vault toilets closed, and no electrical.  At this time we are doing everything within our power to make the camping season happen at W. Kerr Scott Lake.  We wanted to provide you with this information as timely as possible.  Additional notifications will be made if the situation changes.

    We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

  • Check out time is 12pm. Check in time 3pm or after. Assisted check in 3pm-6pm. If no attendant is in the gatehouse, Guests will self-check in using the gate code emailed to them at the point the reservation is made.

    Swim beach is closed until further notice. 

    PLEASE NOTE THAT THE LAST SELECTED DATE ON CALENDAR IS YOUR DEPARTURE DATE!

  • ATTENTION: Gatehouse will not make changes to your reservation.

    All reservations, changes, and cancellations must be made by the guest using Recreation.gov, by calling 877-444-6777, or using the Recreation.gov moblie app.

    The gate code will be delivered to the email address associated with the reservation.

    Highly recommend downloading the recreation.gov moblie app from the recreation.gov website prior to arriving at the campground.

    Frequently asked Rules and Regulations:

    Maximun stay is 14 days within any 30 day period. Changing names on a reservation, changing campsites, or making multiple reservations in order to stay over 14 days is prohibitied. 

    Golden Age/Access and America the Beautiful Interagency Senior and Access Passes are accepted at this campground. Cardholders receive a 50% discount on camping fees. Cardholder must be present at of check in, show pass and ID, and camp during the entire stay. 

    Alcoholic beverages and off-road (golf carts, 4-wheelers, etc.) are prohibited. 

    Camping is permitted in designated campsites only, and only permitted to those who have a reservation. Most campsites have a gravel bases: bring padding for tents. All equipment much be placed within site perimeter. 

    Quiet hours are from 10pm. to 6am. Generators and music must be cut off at 10pm. 

    Campers/Customers should not have packages delivered to the Park.

Notifications and Alerts

  • As of now the booking window for reservations will begin on March 1st, 2026, for Bandits Roost and Warrior Creek campground for the time frame of April 15th through April 29th, 2026, only.  Amenities such as bath houses, dump station, water spigots, vault toilets, trash collections, and electrical hookups may not be available at each campsite or campground. USACE is doing everything within our ability to provide camping at W. Kerr Scott Lake for the 2026 season. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.  Additional information will be made available if the situation changes.

     

    As of now the booking window for reservations will begin on April 27th, 2026, for Bandits Roost and Warrior Creek campgrounds for the remaining 2026 season with the same possibility of lack of amenities mentioned above.

     

    As of now the booking window for reservations will begin on May 11th, 2026, for Fort Hamby Park shelters and campground. Amenities such as bath houses, dump stations, water spigots, vault toilets, lack of sand on swim beaches, trash collection, and electricity may not be available at campsites and shelters.

Directions

From Winston-Salem, North Carolina, take Highway 421 North (approximately 55 miles) to Exit 286B, turn left onto Highway 268 and continue for approximately 8 miles. Turn right immediately after crossing the bridge and follow signs to the campground. From Charlotte, North Carolina, take I-77 North (approximately 60 miles) before merging onto Highway 421 North towards Wilkesboro/Boone, continue to Exit 286B (approximately 20 miles), turn left onto Highway 268 and continue for approximately 8 miles. Turn right immediately after crossing the bridge and follow signs to the campground. Travel times from: Winston-Salem: 1 hour Charlotte: 1.5 hours
