Overview
Albeni Cove is a small campground located just upstream from Albeni Falls Dam on the Pend Oreille.
Situated amongst firs, cedars and pines, Albeni Cove provides a rustic, but incredibly beautiful location for camping and recreation on the river.
Facilities
Albeni Cove Campground offers 14 campsites, all with picnic tables and grills. An on-site dock, boat ramp and swimming beach provide easy access to the water.
Natural Features
Albeni Falls Dam on the Pend Oreille River, provides flood control, power production and countless recreational activities for visitors year-round.
Behind the dam, the Pend Oreille River stretches 65 miles through a glacial-carved valley that separates three mountain ranges.
Lake Pend Oreille is surrounded by scenic mountains and is one of the largest and deepest natural lakes in the western United States, plunging to depths of more than 1,200 ft. in some areas.
Recreation
Water sports are the most common activity at Albeni Cove, including swimming, fishing and boating.
Campers are likely to spot wildlife in the area, including bald eagles, osprey, a wide variety of birds, and most commonly, deer.
Nearby Attractions
The Albeni Falls Visitor Center features exhibits on the history of the dam and the natural features of the area. Tours of the dam are given daily during the summer.
Important Notices
Campsites are by reservation only.
- Access to the recreation area is over a rough, gravel road, RV's not recommended.
No unlicensed motorized vehicles allowed, including side-by-sides, ATVs, etc.
Swim beach and boat ramp may be closed when spillway gates are open in May, June, and early July.
- Campsites are for camping only. Reserving for day-use activities without intending to camp is prohibited.
All camping equipment must be located on the campsite impact areas, or if undefined, located 10-15ft from the fire ring and off all vegetation.

Notifications and Alerts
As of June 20, 2026: County road work may affect your upcoming travel to the campground. The City of Oldtown is closing Albeni Cove Rd from Nagel Rd to Blackthorn Rd for the next several weeks to replace a water main.
For the foreseeable future:
Visitors traveling from Hwy 41 through Idaho Hill on Albeni Cove Rd will need to turn right onto Nagel Rd for .5 miles, turn left on Hwy 41 for .3 miles, turn left on Old Priest River Rd for .8 miles, turn left on Blackthorn Rd for .8 miles and right again on Albeni Cove Rd.
Visitors leaving Albeni Cove will need to turn left onto Blackthorn Rd and right onto Old Priest River Rd to get back to Hwy 41.
Follow detour signs and plan for this road work for the next couple of weeks, up to a month.
Extreme Fire Danger
Campfires using wood, paper or charcoal, or any other open flame such as candles will not be allowed. Camp stoves and lanterns using pressurized gas or gasoline will be allowed but must be touching the designated fire ring. Smoking will be restricted to enclosed vehicles or in areas at least three feet in diameter that have been cleared of all flammable materials.

Directions
From Highway 2 in Newport, Washington, turn south onto Highway 41. Follow for .5 miles and turn east on Fourth Street into Oldtown, Idaho. Follow for approximately 3 miles to the campground.
