Overview

Avintaquin Campground is located atop scenic Indian Canyon, just off Highway 191 between Duchesne and Helper.

Visitors come to the area for its scenic beauty, wildlife viewing opportunities and to explore the Reservation Ridge Scenic Backway.

Facilities

The campground contains one group site that can accommodate up to 50 people, with several picnic tables, a campfire ring, grills, utility tables and parking for 10 vehicles. Several single-family sites are available, each equipped with a picnic table, campfire ring and utility table. Vault toilets are available, but there is no running water. Campers must bring their own supply.

Natural Features

The campground is situated among towering Douglas fir trees at an elevation of 9,000 feet. A variety of wildlife, including mule deer and elk, make a home around Avintaquin.

Recreation

Reservation Ridge Scenic Backway accesses the campground. This dirt road is open to off-road vehicles, mountain biking and hiking, and offers beautiful views of the surrounding area. Additional hiking trails are in the area. Avintaquin Creek and numerous springs are nearby.

  • Single sites are allowed 1 vehicle, 1 RV/trailer, 1 tent, 8 people

Directions

From Duchesne, Utah: Take Highway 191 southwest about 30 miles to the top of Indian Canyon. Turn west on Reservation Ridge Road and travel 1 mile to the campground.<br> <br> From Helper, Utah: Take Highway 191 northeast for 18 miles. Turn west on Reservation Ridge Road and travel 1 mile to the campground.
