Twelvemile Beach Campground

Twelvemile Beach Campground is a beautiful campground along Lake Superior located within the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, just 15 miles west of Grand Marais. There are 36 sites total, including 2 handicap accessible sites. Twelvemile Beach has water, pit toilets, picnic tables, fire rings, and an interpretive amphitheater. The campground has access to the North Country Trail and the two mile long self-guided White Birch Interpretive Trail. The turning radius and some of the parking at sites are limited, so the Park recommends that camper, or vehicle/trailer length should NOT exceed 42 feet.
Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore drive-in campsites are rustic and do not have electric, water, or sewer hookups. Campsites provide a picnic table, fire ring with grill grate, and tent pad. The campgrounds have vault toilets and well water. Typically there is no cell phone reception.
Notifications and Alerts
Campsites 4, 26, and 35 can be reserved two weeks before your intended arrival date at 10 am.
Campsites 8, 15, and 33 can be reserved four days before your intended arrival date at 10 am.

Campground Rules and Regulations:
- Please print your reservation and have it with you or attached to campsite post.
- No more than eight people per site.
- Camping is limited to 14 nights per calendar year within Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
- Check out time is 11:00 am. You can occupy your site anytime after 11:00 am.
- Campground quiet hours are 8 pm to 8 am. There are generator-free areas at Twelvemile Beach and Hurricane River Campgrounds. Music must be for private listening only.
- No more than 2 vehicles per site, (including towed trailers). This is strictly enforced, there are plenty of day use parking spaces near by for extra vehicles.
- Two tents are allowed per site, or two sleeping hammocks (or one of each). One tent must be on the tent pad, and the other must be within 6 feet of the pad. Any hammocks must be within 6 feet of the tent pad. No overflow camping allowed. No beach camping allowed.
- Campfires are permitted in fire rings only. Fires or hot coals cannot be left unattended. Purchase wood locally. No collecting of wood. No cutting of standing trees or limbs. Ash firewood is prohibited. Beach fires are not allowed.
- This is bear country! All food items, beverages, cooking equipment, food storage containers and pet food must be kept sealed in a hard-sided vehicle when not in immediate use (day or night). Those camping without a hard-sided vehicle must use the park-provided metal boxes for food storage. Violations of food storage rules may result in fines.
- Pets must be on a leash (six feet or less) at all times. Pet owners must pick up after their pets and dispose of waste in a trash receptacle. Owners must not allow a pet to make noise that is unreasonable.
- Garbage must be placed in bear-proof trash cans. Dispose of any dish or waste water in the toilet.
- Use vault toilets or toilet in your camper/RV. No dumping of human waste in trash or on the ground.
-Camping is by reservation only, same day reservations are welcomed.
- If you do not arrive by 3:00 pm on the 2nd day of your reservation please call the campground office at 906 387 3700 or your remaining reservation will be cancelled.
- Resale or auction of advance reservations is prohibited.

Natural Features
Sandstone cliffs, beaches, sand dunes, waterfalls, inland lakes, deep forest, and wild shoreline beckon you to visit Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The power of Lake Superior shapes the park's coastal features and affects every ecosystem, creating a unique landscape to explore. Hiking, camping, sightseeing, and four-season outdoor opportunities abound.
Nearby Attractions
Guided kayaking and other boat tours within the national lakeshore are offered by authorized private companies. Pontoon boat and other rentals for use on Lake Superior are available in nearby communities.
Recreation
There are three sets of stairs to the beach as well as a day-use picnic area and parking. The two-mile long White Birch Trail begins and ends at the campground. The North Country Trail treks through the campground. The entrance road winds through a picturesque stand of white birch.
Changes & Cancellations
Cancelling a Reservation: Customers may cancel their reservation prior to arrival both on-line and through the call center. A $10 service fee will be withheld from any refund for a cancellation. Depending on when you cancel in relation to your arrival day, it may be considered a late cancellation.
Changing an Existing Reservation: When changes are made prior to the cut-off window:
If a customer wants to switch dates that are entirely outside of the original reservation dates, there is a $10 change fee.
There is no change fee if a customer extends or shortens a reservation, as long as the change includes dates from the original reservation. If they choose to depart early, they may forfeit the recreation fee for the day of departure.
There is no change fee if the customer wants to switch sites that are the same price with the same reservation dates in the same facility.
If a reservation is made that includes dates beyond the maximum booking window, that reservation cannot be changed until 18 days have passed from the original booking date.
