Old Maverick Road and the gravel access road are both generally well-maintained and accessible to most vehicles. Old Maverick Road becomes slick and rutted after heavy rains and may require high clearance or 4-wheel drive. Always check current road conditions with a ranger.
Directions: Rattlesnake Mountain 1 (RM-1) is located on the east side of Old Maverick Road, approximately 3.6 miles from the Maverick Junction. The turnoff for RM-2 campsite is on the right, just before the road descends a steep hill into a wash. The wash will usually flood with a good rain, but access from the north is generally reliable.
The use of generators is prohibited in the backcountry.
