BE PREPARED: The Ozark National Forest is one of the loveliest protected environments in the United States. Clear streams, stunning vistas, abundant flora and fauna, epic sunsets, dark starry nights, and incredible adventures. The only way you won't enjoy the ONF is if you aren't prepared. White Rock Mountain is very remote. We offer most necessities in the General Store, but please note that the nearest town is approximately 1 hour away. Gas, groceries, and necessities should all be purchased well before heading up to the Mountain.
There are some cautions to be taken in the Ozarks:
1. Rough terrain, familarize yourself with the local trails and weather conditions prior to arrival. We have trail maps posted on site or available for PURCHASE in the General Store.
2. We do not offer shuttles nor give rides. Please plan your trip accordingly and give yourself plenty of time for your hike.
3. WEAR BUG SPRAY and plenty of it when hiking during the summer months.
4. Stay on well traveled/marked trails. Be sure to wash up well and your change clothing after a hike to avoid poision ivy and hitchhiking critters.
5. We have lots of bears in the forest but not in the recreation area. You'd be a lucky 1 in 10,000 if you see one. The facility is kept pristine so they have no incentive to visit. Please help us keep it that way! Properly store all food/waste in your vehicles overnight and while away from camp. This Facility is located in 1.3 million acres of National Forest, all forms of wildlife are possible.
6. Watch the forecast. Plan your hikes accordingly. For more information please visit our FAQ page at whiterockmountain.com
7. Don't forget: First Aid Supplies, Food, Water Containers, Good Hiking Shoes, Rain Gear, Trash Containers/Bags, and always bring a good attitude. The Forest is a beautiful place, if you heed all the above, and we'll help, you're going to have a great time!
