Only 2 miles from Stephen C. Foster State Park, Mixons Hammock is located at the west end of Billys Lake before the River Narrows on the Brown Trail. This land based site provides a great paddle/camping opportunity for large groups, scouts, less experienced paddlers or a group with mixed levels of experience and families with children. There are lots of opportunities to fish along Billys Lake as well as paddle all around the lake and the River Narrows (for those more experienced paddlers.) It's a great place for hiking and to enjoy sitting around a campfire. There is no overhead shelter so consider bringing a tarp in case it rains.
Wood and charcoal fires are allowed at Mixons Hammock in the provided fire ring. NO OUTSIDE FIREWOOD ALLOWED. Please refer to the refuge map for additional information and Know Before You Go tips. Keep trails and platforms free of litter; you must pack out ALL garbage generated from your trip.
Permit holders take full responsibility of knowing the distance between overnight stops.
