The National Park Service provided the planners, and the Civilian Conservation Corps provided the labor to construct Octagon Shelter in the 1930's. The building’s architecture is affectionately known as “parkitecture.” The Civilian Conservation Corps commonly used this style in parks around the country.
There are seven indoor picnic tables, two fireplaces, and an outside grill. It accommodates up to 50 people. During the summer months the walls are removed; they are in place from October 15 to May 14.
The Octagon Shelter is in a large grass field, and the parking lot has immediate access to the Ledges Trail System. Trail maps can be found at the trailhead kiosk, on the NPS app, or on our website: Trail Maps - Cuyahoga Valley National Park (U.S. National Park Service).
