The Dwight D. Eisenhower National Fish Hatchery opened in 1909, where much of the fish-rearing practices in place today were developed. The hatchery raised a number of trout and char species such as California golden trout, cutthroat trout, brook trout, lake trout, Arctic char, and Arctic grayling. Today, the hatchery raises Atlantic salmon, lake trout, and brook trout for recreational fishing in Vermont, New York, and New Hampshire. Visitors are welcome anytime from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., 365 days a year. Take a nice drive to the Green Mountains of Vermont and see thousands of fish, feed the large salmon in our display pool, and enjoy learning all about fish-rearing! You can also take a virtual tour to learn about the Dwight D. Eisenhower National Fish Hatchery. Youth groups, school and homeschool groups are encouraged to visit the hatchery for a guided tour.
