The Mount Wilson Back Country Byway is an approximately 66-mile Type II route through Lincoln County, Nevada, that loops around the Wilson Range. The route follows gravel, dirt, and paved roads through volcanic basins, narrow canyons, pinyon-juniper woodlands, and higher-elevation stands of aspen and ponderosa pine. Along the way, visitors can explore historic cabins and pioneer sites, view wildlife, and visit Spring Valley State Park and the historic mining town of Pioche. High-clearance vehicles are recommended. Allow 2 to 4 hours. The route is generally open seasonally and may become unsafe or impassable in winter, after heavy rain, or when roads are wet.
