Overview

The Caribbean Motel, built in 1957 and a member of Historic Hotels of America® since 2011 was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Historic Hotels of America is the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation® for recognizing and celebrating the finest historic hotels across America.

Built in 1957, the Caribbean Motel was among the most imaginative structures to rise along the famed Jersey Shore at the height of the “Doo Wop” era. A symbol of post-World War II optimism and leisure, the motel swept guests away to fulfill fantasies of exotic holidays in far-away lands with its ultra-modern architectural elements, including a futuristic ramp to the second floor and sundeck, angled glass walls, oversized neon sign, multi-colored spaceship lights, and tropical-themed landscaping complete with full-size plastic palm trees, the first to be “planted” in Doo Wop motels. Now meticulously restored with modern amenities, this fabulous vintage motel is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is recognized internationally as a Midcentury modern architectural treasure.
