Overview

The Westin Poinsett, built in 1925 and a member of Historic Hotels of America® since 2013 was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. Historic Hotels of America is the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation® for recognizing and celebrating the finest historic hotels across America. Unmatched in charm or elegance for over 100 years, Greenville's only historic four-diamond hotel, The Westin Poinsett, has offered discerning guests the modern amenities they desire with quality service and warm hospitality. Surrounding guests with soaring ceilings, an exquisite ballroom, and rich decor, the 1920's historic detail and ambiance has been carefully preserved. First standing on South Main Street as the Mansion House Hotel, the hotel was demolished in 1924 to make room for what would next be known as one of the most beautifully furnished hotels in the country, Poinsett Hotel, which quickly became known as "Carolina's Finest"-drawing notable guests such as Amelia Earhardt, Cornelius Vanderbilt, and Bobby Kennedy.
