Ancient Bristlecone Scenic Byway (Route 168)

Overview

Ancient Bristlecone Scenic Byway (Route 168) is managed by Department of Transportation.

This Scenic Highway begins on the outskirts of Bishop in the Owens Valley. Owens Valley, at 4,000 feet in elevation, is a high plains landscape replete with glorious fall colors, gorgeous spring wild-flowers and year-round fishing in the Owens River. It climbs through pinyon-juniper woodlands, up into the Inyo National Forest.

Getting There

Navigating the Byway:

The byway begins on the outskirts of Bishop and follows Route 168 southwest from Camp Sabrina to Brockman Lane at Paiute Shoshone Indian Reservation.

The byway is paved to Schulman Grove and gravel for the remainder.
