Nestucca River Back Country Byway
Overview
Nestucca River Back Country Byway is managed by Department of Transportation.
Follow the Nestucca River through a wooded canyon. The river has been designated an Oregon State Scenic Waterway. The canyon is lined with weathered cliffs made of seafloor sandstones and basalts. The walls are covered by lichens, worts, and mosses. The woods lining the canyon is a temperate rain forest because it rains 120 inches annually. The area is considered one of the richest biomasses in the world.
Places to picnic and camp are currently available. More recreational facilities are planned to follow.

Getting There
Getting to the Byway:
From Beaver:
- Go east on Blain Rd. toward Blain
- After 6.6 miles you will pass the Blain turn off, keep going straight on Blain Rd.
- Blain Rd. will quickly become the Nestucca River Rd, follow this road for 4 miles
- You will see a road on your right called Bible Creek Rd, stay straight on Nestucca Rd. to enter the byway
From Carlton:
- Go south on N 1st St. toward E. Main St.
- Turn right onto E. Main St.
- E. Main St. becomes NW Meadowlake Rd.
- After 15.2 miles turn left
- Turn left again onto NW Bald Mountain Access Rd.
- Turn right to stay on the road
- Take a slight right
- Turn left
- Turn right onto Bald Mountain Rd./Bald Mountain Access Rd.
- Take a slight right
- After 4.7 miles turn left onto Nestucca River Rd, where the byway begins
Navigating the Byway:
The byway runs between Beaver and Carlton, alongside the Nestucca River.
- The byway begins at the intersection of Blaine Drive and the OR-101 (Oregon Coast Highway) in Beaver.
- Proceed east on Blaine Road and turn south (right) onto Upper Nestucca River Road in Blaine.
- The road becomes Nestucca River Road near the junction with NF-112 and Testament Creek Road.
- Near Haskins Creek Reservoir (to the north) the byway becomes Meadow Lake Road.
- The byway ends at Meadow Lake Road and Yamhill Street in Carlton.
