Holla Bend National Wildlife Refuge Site Pass

Holla Bend National Wildlife Refuge

Holla Bend National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) is located in Pope and Yell County along the Arkansas River, five miles downstream from the city of Dardanelle, Arkansas. The refuge was established in 1957. Holla Bend is identified as an Important Bird Area (IBA) by the National Audubon Society for supporting a bald eagle population as well as 23 other species considered to be 'of conservation concern' at the state level. Audubon Arkansas also characterizes the refuge as an 'outstanding stopover site' for migratory landbirds.

The primary access to the refuge is via the 8-mile auto tour route. This road leads to all boat ramps, observation areas and foot trails. Holla Bend NWR is an excellent place to observe and photograph wildlife, particularly in the fall and winter months to see the greatest variety of migratory and overwintering species. Sportfishing and boating opportunities are available March 1 through October 31. Deer, turkey and raccoon hunting are permitted in accordance with refuge and state regulations.
