Lucky Peak Lake Tours and Programs
Lucky Peak is one dam out of a three-dam system along the Boise River. It is an earth filled dam which holds the primary mission of providing flood risk management to the Treasure Valley. For this tour, A USACE Park Ranger will take you and your group into the Dam Intake Tower to provide an overview of the construction of Lucky Peak Dam, current operations of the dam, relationships with many partners including the Lucky Peak Power Plant Project (non-Corps), and big picture water management considerations of the Upper Boise Basin. We highly encourage questions and conversations about operations!
Please note that this area is a secure facility, items and personnel are subject to search. The inside of the Dam Tower is not considered ADA accessible. However, please email or call our office to discuss options if accommodations are needed. In rare cases, we may need to cancel a tour due to unforeseen circumstances such as weather conditions.

Need to Know
- Secure Facility
Secure Facility: You are entering a secure facility on this tour. A U.S. government-issued ID is required to be presented prior to entry for all individuals 18 and over. All individuals under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
- Items
No bags, cases, parcels, cameras, cell phones, purses, backpacks, diaper bags, food, drink, or pets are allowed to enter the facility. Weather appropriate apparel for being outdoors is recommended, while a light jacket for interior spaces may be desired.
- Entering the Facility
Just beyond mile marker 11, tour guests should exit Highway 21 and begin across Lucky Peak Dam. As the Intake Tower and Service Bridge draw near, please park perpendicularly in the wide cross-hatched area signed “No Stopping Any Time” (tour guests may violate this parking policy). - Accessibility
Most of this tour is upon hardened level surfaces and requires a total walking distance of 1,800 feet roundtrip. Portions of this tour (in and around the Intake Tower) require use of stairs and movement through spaces not designed for ADA accessibility.
- Restrooms and Water
No restrooms or water are available at this tour location. A vault toilet is located nearby at Lucky Peak Viewpoint for use before or after the tour.
- Cancellations
Cancellations: In rare cases, we may need to cancel a tour due to unforeseen circumstances such as weather conditions. If we cancel a tour, we will notify you by email or text.
