Beat 1
Pecos National Historical Park Fishing Reservations
Beat 1: Beat 1 is the most accessible beat. From the parking area, anglers must walk approximately 100 yards down a sloped gravel road to the downstream river access point.
From there, anglers on Beat 1 can fish upstream through the northernmost mile of river in the park. This beat has sections with grassy banks or rock walls, as well as many spots with thick vegetation along the streambank. Shore access may be limited in these sections.

Need to Know
- Check In and Out Required
Check-In. Anglers must check in at the visitor center before heading to the river. Check-in must take place during visitor center hours (opens at 8:30am); earlier check-in is not available. During check-in, park staff will confirm the reservation, review fishing licenses, and provide directions and parking placards.
Check-Out. Anglers are also expected to check out at the visitor center at the end of their fishing day, before the visitor center closes at 4pm. Anglers should be off the water by 3pm, and checked-out at the visitor center no later than 4pm.
- 4 Person Maximum Per Beat, Per Day
When making a reservation, all people in your group, whether fishing or not, must be accounted for in the reservation. There is a maximum of 4 people per beat, per day.
- Use of Bait Prohibited
The use or possession of all live or dead organic baits is prohibited at Pecos NHP. Such baits include but are not limited to fish or fish parts, minnows, salamanders (“water dogs”), salmon eggs, worms, or foodstuffs such as bread and corn.
