Pecos National Historical Park Fishing Reservations
Beat 3: The southernmost stretch of the Pecos River in the park, Beat 3 is the most difficult to access. Please consider the following before making a reservation on this beat:
Reaching the river access point for this beat requires a strenuous, 1.25-mile hike (one way) through open pasture.
Anglers must be prepared for extended exposure to the elements, including intense sun and potential afternoon thunderstorms. As with the other two beats, anglers are still expected to check out at the visitor center no later than 4pm.
Anglers must carry all gear; it is not recommended to do the hike while wearing chest waders.
From the access point, this mile of river flows downstream through more open country than the other two beats, gliding past grassy banks and cottonwoods. Note that there is still thick vegetation along much of the streambank on Beat 3, so shore access may be limited in many sections.

Check-In. Anglers must check in at the visitor center before heading to the river. Check-in must take place during visitor center hours (opens at 8:30am); earlier check-in is not available. During check-in, park staff will confirm the reservation, review fishing licenses, and provide directions and parking placards.
Check-Out. Anglers are also expected to check out at the visitor center at the end of their fishing day, before the visitor center closes at 4pm. Anglers should be off the water by 3pm, and checked-out at the visitor center no later than 4pm.
When making a reservation, all people in your group, whether fishing or not, must be accounted for in the reservation. There is a maximum of 4 people per beat, per day.
The use or possession of all live or dead organic baits is prohibited at Pecos NHP. Such baits include but are not limited to fish or fish parts, minnows, salamanders (“water dogs”), salmon eggs, worms, or foodstuffs such as bread and corn. Scented attractants (liquid and solid baits) are not allowed.
