Salon Concerts Soft Lydian Aires: An Afternoon of Music at the Vanderbilt Mansion

Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site Tours

Learn how intimate musical performances for small groups of people became a popular form of entertainment in the nineteenth-century home and many musicians and composers supported themselves financially by performing in these small venues for wealthy patrons. The National Park Service presents vocal, instrumental, and ensemble performances by outstanding artists in the intimate atmosphere of the Vanderbilt Mansion featuring the historic Steinway Model D concert grand piano. Seating will be provided in the Living Room and each concert will last approximately sixty minutes with a self-guided tour of the mansion prior and the opportunity to meet the artists after.

Schubert, Mozart, Bacon, Schumann, Debussy, Ravel, Gershwin are some of the composers that will be featured during the programs. Please check the park website or social media for specific information on the featured content for performances on any given day.
