Day use permits are required for day use at 19 trailheads that access Mt. Jefferson, Mt. Washington and Three Sisters wilderness areas starting the Friday before Memorial Day through the last Friday of September.
Day use permits are only valid for entry on the date and trailhead listed on the permit.
Travel between wilderness areas is only allowed at Pacific Crest Trail trailheads.
Day use permits are not transferable. The trip leader must be present with the group at all times.
Some trailheads may not be accessible to vehicles until mid/late-June, including McKenzie Highway (Oregon 242) and the Cascade Lakes Highway. Go to www.TripCheck.com for the latest information.
Some trails often remain snow covered into late June.
Campfires are not allowed above 5,700’ elevation and at additional lower elevation destinations.
In areas where campfires are permitted, they must be at least 100-foot slope distance from any permanent lake, stream, spring, pond or system trail.
Hikers and equestrians should obtain a detailed map of the area before planning a trip, and inquire in advance about trail conditions, particularly early in the season.
Visitors must practice "Leave No Trace" skills, including properly disposing of human and pet waste and carrying out all trash. Visit www.LNT.org for more information.
