Indiana Dunes National Park Programs and Tours

Indiana Dunes National Park

The "Art in the Park" series of events is hosted by the Indiana Dunes National Park in partnership with the Art Barn School of Art in Valparaiso, IN. Classes are open to all skill levels, and accessible to those with physical limitations.

Each session features a different theme related to the National Park and its surroundings. Art Barn instructor Dori Huber will guide students through the art process on a project inspired by the park. By coming together, our organizations are collectively able to accomplish a common goal of reaching more individuals through cultural programming that links art and nature together at the park's Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education. Kids ages 6 and up are allowed with parent or guardian. Kids must have own ticket.

2026 Art in the Park dates and topics:

April 11 "Spotting Spotted Crane's Bill"  Acrylic/mixed media on canvas featuring this flower of the oak savanna and woodland habitats in the Dunes.

May 9 "Birds and Blooms" Acrylic/mixed media on canvas featuring spring birds and some of the flowers found in wetlands, oak savanna, and woodland habitats in the Dunes.

June 13 "Flashing Fireflies" Acrylic/mixed media project featuring these flashy insects in a Dunes nightscape. Prairie, wetland, and woodland habitats will be discussed.

July 11 "America at 250"
