Sand Lake Recreation Area 4Th of July Tickets
Derrick Road provides a semi-dispersed camping experience with easy access to the sand dunes. There are no designated campsites; vehicles can park anywhere within the camping area as long as they are not blocking the access road. Each ticket allows one highway legal vehicle and one towed camper to access Derrick Road for one day. Visitors wishing to camp must buy separate tickets for each day of their stay.
If you would like to visit for multiple days during the holiday weekend: Follow these instructions to quickly and easily book multiple tickets on a single transaction. Only one ticket can be purchased per account per day.
1. Select the first date of your trip.
2. Click on your desired starting time.
3. Click “request tickets.” This will take you to the Order Details screen.
4. Before completing your order details, click “back” on your browser to return to the ticket selection webpage.
5. Repeat steps 1 – 4 for your remaining trip dates.
6. Once you’ve selected all your desired tickets, click on the shopping cart icon in the upper right of your browser.
7. Complete the order details for each individual ticket by clicking “modify.”
8. Once all ticket details are complete, you will be able to proceed to payment. The system will hold your tickets in your cart while you are completing the previous steps.

- Dates of Access
Visitors wishing to camp must buy tickets for each day of their stay.
- Vehicle Limits
Each ticket covers one highway legal vehicle and one towed camping trailer for one day.
- Campsites
There are no designated campsites at Derrick Road. Vehicles can park anywhere within the camping area as long as they do not block the road and do not go beyond the “open riding area” sign.
- Printed or Digital Ticket Required
Print your ticket at home or save a digital copy to your phone. Internet service at Sand Lake is unreliable. Screenshots or printouts of the confirmation email will not be accepted.
- Amenities
Derrick Road Camping Area provides a vault toilet, trash disposal, and a small number of fire rings and picnic tables.
- Driving on the Sand
This location requires driving on soft sand. Four-wheel drive vehicles are recommended.
- Alcohol Regulations
Alcoholic beverages are not allowed in the open riding area.
- Night Riding Curfew
Motor vehicle use in the open riding area is prohibited from midnight to 6 AM.
