Presidio Trust Picnic Place
Welcome to Picnic Place! Here you can enjoy an outdoor meal with your friends and family at our reservable community picnic tables and barbeque grills. Bring your own food to grill or buy prepared meals at one of the rotating cast of mobile food vendors . Fire-up the grill, laugh, tell stories, and share in your favorite food traditions, circled by amazing views. The tables range in length from 16 to 23 feet, are wheelchair accessible, and are shaded by torrey pines. In the evening, bistro lights brighten the scene. Picnic Place is part of the Presidio Tunnel Tops , a new attraction within the Presidio of San Francisco. The Presidio Tunnel Tops are built on top of the Presidio Parkway tunnels, with amazing Golden Gate views you can't find anywhere else in San Francisco. This new destination connects the historic center of the Presidio to the park's Crissy Field waterfront.

Please note that the East Meadow, lawn that is adjacent to Picnic Place, is not included with Picnic Place reservations and is not guaranteed to be available. The East Meadow may be rented for private events and is open to use on a first-come, first-served basis when it is not in use for an event. To check if the lawn has been rented on a specific date, please email us at picnic@presidiotrust.gov.

Picnic Place permit reservations (“Permit”) made through Recreation.gov are subject to the Presidio Trust’s Terms and Conditions of Use for Picnic Place (“Terms and Conditions”). You have read and agree to the provisions for Express Prohibitions, No Temporary Residence, Assumption of Risk, Indemnity, and Waiver in the Terms and Conditions.
Cancellation for Violation: If Permittee violates the terms and conditions of this Permit, the Presidio Trust may immediately cancel this Permit by written or verbal notice and Permittee shall promptly surrender the Premises in accordance with the terms and conditions of this Permit.
You may use your designated Picnic Site solely for recreational picnicking and for no other purpose whatsoever.
The Trust reserves the right at any time and from time to time to change, add to, subtract from, or alter any part of the Picnic Site(s) or any other permitted rights to use parts of the Presidio. The Trust will not be subject to liability nor will Permittee be entitled to compensation because of such changes. The Trust will not be liable to Permittee for interference or inconvenience caused by any such action of the Trust.
The following are prohibited:
- hiring third party vendors (e.g., catering, beverage service, food trucks, entertainment)
- balloons, confetti, and the like
- affixing decor to any surface besides your picnic table
- setting up tents, including popup tents, and generators
- jump houses and inflatable play equipment
- kiddie pools
- activities that will damage the lawns
- activities that leave a residue or stain (e.g. paint, chalk, bubbles, etc.)
- feeding of animals
- the use of weapons or controlled substances (other than prescription drugs)
- smoking/vaping
- gambling in any form, or the operation of gambling devices
- the use or possession of fireworks or explosives
- exchange of money for goods or services
Alcoholic beverages are allowed in accordance with 36 CFR § 1002.35 . Disorderly conduct is prohibited.
Low amplified sound that does not disturb other visitors, residents, and tenants is permitted.
Permittee shall not bring hazardous materials to the Picnic Site or burn any fuel other than reasonable and appropriate amounts of charcoal for cooking on the grill in your Picnic Site. Sterno or other similar chafing dish fuel cannisters are not allowed.
You must comply with all applicable laws and restrictions at Tunnel Tops and the Presidio of San Francisco. The Presidio Trust reserves the right to revoke this Permit for any reason and may close or limit access to Picnic Place at any time and for any reason, including, but not limited to, safety, weather, or air quality conditions.
