Overview

For Blackwoods campsites, 90 percent of campsites are released six months in advance on the first of each month at 10 am EST. The remaining 10 percent are released at 10 am 14 days ahead of a desired arrival date on a rolling basis. For example, if you plan to arrive on May 24, you can make an online reservation starting at 10 am EST Dec 1 from the first release or starting at 10 am EST on May 10 from the second release. All campsite reservations must be made through recreation.gov.

  • 90% of campsites are available six months in advance, and released on a monthly basis as described above.
  • 10% of campsites are available at 10:00 a.m. EST. fourteen (14) days in advance of the desired reservation date.
  • Visitors are able to make same day reservations if campsites are available.
  • All reservations must be made through recreation.gov. Reservations cannot be made through the campground office or in-person.

Blackwoods Campground is located in breathtaking Acadia National Park on the Maine coast. Visitors venture to Acadia for its picturesque scenery, historic sites and recreational activities, including hiking, biking and canoeing.

Facilities

The majority of Blackwoods' sites are for small and large tents; other sites can accommodate travelers with RVs. Flush toilets, running water, and a dump station are provided, as are picnic tables and fire rings. Roads are paved.


*** There are no showers in the campground. Fee shower facilities are located 1/2 mile from the campground. The use of portable showers is prohibited.***

Natural Features

Acadia is comprised of a cluster of islands on the Atlantic coast of Maine. Mountains, lakes, streams, wetlands, forests, meadows and beaches are all found within roughly 50,000 acres comprising Acadia. At Blackwoods, all sites are wooded and within a 10-minute walk of the ocean.

Recreation

From gentle walks along the rugged coastline, mountain hikes, tree lined carriage roads for biking and lakes for kayaking and canoeing, Acadia offers many opportunities to get outside and be active.


Park rangers at Acadia offer a variety of programs to suit every interest and activity level. Programs include walks, talks, hikes, narrated boat cruises, bike rides and more.



A 27-mile, historic loop road system offers outstanding views of the park's ocean shoreline, coastal forests and mountain silhouettes.

Nearby Attractions

Acadia National Park is surrounded by scenic island harbors and quaint towns. Mount Desert Island, the Schoodic Peninsula, and Isle au Haut offer plenty of visitor services including restaurants, shops, museums, and tours. Please check with local Chambers of Commerce for more information.

Important Notices

  • Please have the following reservation information ready when you arrive at the campground (primary occupant, site letter & number, and check-in date). Cell coverage is poor at the campground so printing or writing it down may be best. Check-in time is AFTER 12:00pm.

  • An entrance pass is required in the park and while staying in the campground. Acadia National Park charges the following entrance fees: $35 per vehicle, $30 per motorcycle, or $20 per pedestrian/cyclist. Visitors may purchase the Acadia National Park annual pass for $70. Buy your Acadia National Park pass online at www.recreation.gov 

  • Arriving after hours? Proceed directly to your reserved campsite. Campground can be reached at (207) 412-8103 or by calling recreation.gov 1-877-444-6777. Review the rules on the Rules & Cancellations tab above.  

  • VEHICLE LENGTH LIMITS: It is your responsiblity to review Site Details and Equipment Allowed before reserving your campsite. If you reserve a campsite and your equipment exceeds the listed limits, you may have your reservation cancelled. 

  • All camping equipment must fit on the campsite pad. Help us grow vegetation around the campsites! Do not walk or set up camping gear off of the campsite pad. You are responsible for reviewing site details and booking a site that will accomodate your equipment. Note: Tree tents are not permitted in the campground. The use of portable showers is prohibited.

  • Only one vehicle may park at each campsite. Please make sure all four tires are on the campsite driveway and not on the campsite pad. Extra vehicles may park at the overflow parking area near the amphitheater or along Hwy 3.

  • Only two tents are allowed at each campsite. Please reserve another campsite if you are bringing more than two tents.
  • Pets are permitted and must be leashed or caged at all times. Leashes must be six feet (1.8 m) or less in length. Pets may not be left unattended for their safety and for the safety of other visitors and wildlife.
  • No generators allowed in B-Loop. Generators may only be used in A-Loop during the following times: (8am-10am, 4pm-7pm). You must be at your campsite when running your generator. Please be mindful of how generator noise affects other campers.

  • Do not bring firewood from more than 50 miles away. Help protect our forests from the spread of hidden, tree-killing insects by obtaining firewood from local vendors near the campground. Please visit https://www.dontmovefirewood.org/how-to-help/f-a-q/ for more information.

  • Quiet hours are from 10:00pm to 6:00am. Sound travels easily between campsites. Remember to speak in a low voice during your stay.
  • Pack up your food in hard-sided containers or in your vehicle when not at campsite and when going to sleep for the night. Birds, raccoons, and other animals are known to rummage through unattended food.
  • No individual, in any capacity, may camp in Acadia National Park campgrounds for more than a combined total of 14 nights between the Friday of Memorial Day Weekend and Columbus Day; Camping is limited to 30 nights per calendar year.

  • CHECK OUT TIME = Before 10:00am. Please help us manage the campground better by vacating your campsite before 10:00am. Any items left on campsite will be removed immediately after check-out time.

Directions

<p>The entrance to Blackwoods Campground is off of State Highway 3, six miles south of Bar Harbor. There is no entrance to the campground from Acadia National Park's Park Loop Rd.<br><br><br>Be aware of <a href="https://www.nps.gov/acad/planyourvisit/oversized-vehicles.htm" rel="nofollow">height restrictions</a> for recreational vehicles. The Park Loop Rd. has several low bridges and the majority of it is one way traffic. Plan your route carefully. Many park roads feature historic bridges constructed with lower than conventional clearances.</p>

Cancellation Policy

<p>In addition to the changes and cancellations outlined in the reservation rules above, a no-show refers to a camper who does not arrival at the campground and fails to cancel their reservation by check-out time on the day after their scheduled arrival.</p><ul><li><p>If you have not arrived by 10:00am EST the day after your scheduled arrival, your reservation will be canceled and incur a $20.00 service fee along with forfeiting the first night’s camping fee.</p></li></ul><p><strong>Early Departures</strong></p><p> If you choose to check out of your campsite early, you must notify us in person at the Campground Ranger Station before 10:00am EST to receive a refund for your remaining nights. If you check out after 10:00am EST, you will not receive a refund for that night.</p>
