Station Description and Details

Take a trip along the Pocono Line to Tobyhanna, PA to explore the history of the local ice harvesting and huckleberry industries which were dependent upon the railroad. Learn about Tobyhanna with a tour of historic buildings including the St. Ann’s Church crypt. The station will also have antique cars, music, delicious food, and more.

Riders will disembark at the Tobyhanna Train Station, a type W-103 frame structure built in 1908 and operated by the Pocono Rail Historical Society Inc., in conjunction with the National Rail Historical Society. The station has an extensive display of railroad memorabilia of objects, photos, and actual equipment, offering a museum preserving rail history of our area and is the home of model train club. There are four operating layouts of three different gauges, including one for younger children to operate. The station serves as a gathering place where members, young and old, build and operate model trains, and a genuine museum experience can be enjoyed by all visitors.

Ice Industry Walking Tour- an optional 1/2-mile walking tour to Tobyhanna Millpond #1 to see the century-old tools and equipment that are still used for the annual ice harvest. Learn about the history of the ice industry in Northeast PA.

History: The Tobyhanna train station was built in 1908 by the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad and was leased and restored by the Pocono Mountain Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society in 1994.

Amenities: Picnic tables are available, porta-potties available on days of excursions, plenty of free parking. The station is able to accept credit card payments via Square. The station is located next to an active freight railroad for the train enthusiast.
