Station Description and Details
Travel with Steamtown National Historic Site on its first excursion of the 2026 season, an excursion to the Spring Marketplace in Carbondale, Pennsylvania. This round-trip rail experience takes passengers through the Lackawanna Valley before arriving in downtown Carbondale, where Memorial Park hosts a community marketplace featuring local vendors, handmade crafts, seasonal goods, and food offerings.
Guests will have time to explore a walkable outdoor market with a wide variety of artisan booths and community organizations, offering unique gifts, locally made products, and spring-themed items. The excursion combines historic rail travel with an easy, convenient way to enjoy one of Carbondale’s signature seasonal community events.
History: Carbondale’s present-day train station was built on the site of the Delaware and Hudson Seventh Avenue train station that was opened on February 1, 1896. Local and express trains, both north and south, from Carbondale arrived and departed from Carbondale on a daily basis. In the 1950s, as many as fifteen passenger trains departed daily from this station for Scranton.
