Orientation Tour

African Burial Ground National Monument Tours

The guided Orientation Tour is roughly 30 minutes in total and begins inside the African Burial Ground National Monument Visitor Center (290 Broadway, New York, NY). During the program, the ranger will present on the history of slavery during the Dutch and British periods and the history of the African Burial Ground and its re-discovery in 1991. Participants will be encouraged to engage in the program, ask questions, share thoughts, and comments.

Need to Know

• Length of Tour

  The guided Orientation Tour is roughly 30 minutes in total and begins inside the African Burial Ground National Monument Visitor Center (290 Broadway, New York, NY). 

• Restrooms

  There is access to restrooms and water fountains while inside the visitor center.

• Security Screening

  Visitors must go through an airport-style security screening process. Visitors will be asked to remove all electronics and metals from their person to be screened. 

• Tour Meeting Location

  The Guided AFBG Tour begins inside the African Burial Ground National Monument Visitor Center (290 Broadway).
